In November 2022, it was revealed that Patricia Riggen would direct the movie, and Viola Davis would star and produce it. [3] The 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike affected production in July 2023. Even though the production was not scheduled to start filming, the film had been granted an interim agreement [4], and Davis declared the next day that she would not film until the strike was over.

With the announcement of cast members including Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Antony Starr, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Clark Gregg, principal photography formally started in Cape Town in January 2024. Filming wrapped by early March.
