Developed by The Chinese Room, the video game developer studio behind Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Dear Esther, released a first personimmersive psychological horror video game on the 18th of June, 2024.
If you want to feel the thrills, experience the horror of the seas, then delve into Still Wakes the Deep.
Set in December 1975, the player assumes control of an electrician named Cameron McLeary, who must navigate through the oil rig following a catastrophic event, looking for a way to escape while surviving the harsh weather and evading the pursuit of creatures.
Without revealing too much of the game play, things get seriously messed up when Cameron seeks help from his best friend, Roy, after a violent altercation with a man named Billy, leaving his wife, Suze, and his kids. Despite no experience in the oil industry, he is hired and it’s not too long before the incident involving Cameron is found out, leading him to get fired.
Before he can board a helicopter out of the oil rig, there’s a violent shake in the facility causing Cameron and several men to fall into the sea. Then all hell breaks loose when Cameron wakes up, to find the rig is beginning to break apart and mutated creatures are invading the rig, hunting the crew members.
The game play looks very impressive from the launch trailer, offering players a glimpse of the ghoulish setting and atmosphere, highlighting the immersive graphics and audio. The game has been released on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S. It definitely has the potential to stand out in the horror and first-person immersive genres.
